Unlike most people, I love Mondays. Why? Because it’s a fresh start to a new week, a week that has yet to unfold and is full of possibility. Maybe this will be the week that I score some “me” time to take that pole-dancing class I’ve been eyeing or I tick off that major work project that I’ve been dreading.
I also love the first year on a new job and there’s nothing more refreshing to me than a blank piece of paper to write my to-do list. I’m all about new beginnings and that’s why I am the perpetual optimistic when it comes to New Year’s resolutions.
Last year my New Year’s resolution was what I termed a “champagne agenda.”Basically, I set out to celebrate my accomplishments – whether it was big, like getting a raise, or small, like making it through an especially trying week – with a glass of bubbly on a regular basis.
The secret to accomplishing New Year’s resolutions is making them fun. I haven’t set my 2012 resolutions in stone yet, but they might be something along the lines of:
- Wear more dresses
- Ask Nate Berkus to redecorate my paper-piled office (please Nate, please????)
- Learn to cook Mediterranean food
- Introduce my kids to the beach – hopefully that will be on a California vacay, but if not, make it happen on the shores of Lake Michigan
- Eat healthy chocolate (get recipes on my guest post, “Now You Can Eat Chocolate and Keep Your Resolutions!”)
- Get personally trained by Jillian Michaels vis-à-vis i-fit technology on my new treadmill
See, fun stuff, right? What are your 2012 resolutions?
I know that making resolutions is a bit cliche, but I find it inspirational and I love your idea of just having fun with it. My first goal for 2012 is to book 10 brides for the year 2012 and to have my bridal line in 1 store. Hopefully I will blow this goal out of the water but I like to make my goals small and attainable. I also received a Latin Dance DVD and Im gonna get my butt in shape while dancing sexy (not as fun as your pole dancing class idea) but Im super excited about testing out my injuries to see if they are healed enough to introduce some exercise again.
Thanks for your great article…you always make me laugh and remember that its ALWAYS a good idea to vacay in Cali!!!!
Ooh, Wendy, I would love to Latin Dance with you. I just told Bryan over lunch that we need to learn to Mambo some day!
Great stuff, especially the part about having fun with your resolutions. Last year I followed something I read on The Happiness Project about choosing a one-word resolution – mine was ‘Celebrate’. I think it served me well in 2011.
In 2012, I have an overarching theme: Raise Your Game. This for me means being more playful, more purposeful, more productive and more present. I guess the keyword is More – taking it the next level but as you said, having fun with it. I’m planning to launch this theme as a series on my blog with guest bloggers, so I’d love to invite you along too if you’re up for writing a guest post sometime?
Fab blog by the way.
Great idea Babes! I like the idea of raising my game this year, especially as it pertains to having more fun. (Reading “The Happiness Project” has been on my to-do list for a long, long time. Along with a lot of other things.) I would love to do a guest post for you. I would be honored!
I like that idea about “fun”. I think most people think that a new years resolution has to be about doing something you dread. I want my kids to make some goals this year based on what their DREAMS are. I think I want to make one about doing more craft projects. Thanks for the thought!
I think that’s a great idea Caren – to teach your children how to set goals and work to accomplish them. It’s really equipping them to plan and implement all things in life.
I keep trying to stick to my New Year’s resolutions, but never have any luck. So I’m afraid, I gave up this year and didn’t make any

I still haven’t figured out what my new year’s resolutions (goals) will be. I need to set some concrete ones, but I’m wavering back and forth between a few, and I’m afraid if I set too many, nothing will happen *sigh*
Pick two fun ones and go from there!
