You’ve decided that your preschooler is ready for the crazy happiness that going to the zoo or an amusement park delivers. But you’ve never been on an outing quite like this. Let me tell you: Packing the right stuff ensures you’ll all get the most joy out of the day.
Besides your usual diaper bag supplies – an extra outfit, wipes and pull-ups, and a plastic baggie for wet items – consider these must-haves, too:
I prefer natural sunscreens like All Terrain KidSport SPF30 Natural Sunscreen Spray (3-Ounce). They use minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide rather than chemicals to block the sun. Slather it on before you go and pack it to reapply later. To protect your child’s scalp, apply sunscreen where the hair is parted too or have your kiddo wear a hat or hairstyle that keeps the scalp covered (think: ponytail or French braid).
If your little one has a hard time drinking out of a regular cup or bottle – especially while on the go – pack a sippy or straw cup. The Nuby No Spill Flip-it Cup, has an adjustable cap that safely tucks away the straw when not in use so it doesn’t get dirty.
If there’s one thing Aussie’s know, it’s sun protection. Take, for instance, these Australian-designed sunglasses that stay on little ones’ faces to protect their peepers. Baby Banz Ultimate Polarized Sunglasses have 100% UVA/UVB protection and polarized lenses. They stay put with a neoprene, adjustable strap that goes around the head. For added comfort, they snuck in some silicone cushioning around the nose, brows, and cheeks. They come in a ton of colors and even have some retro looks available.
Move over mama, because daddy’s got a new bag! Created by a father of six, the Daddy Diaper Pack is a glorified backpack with extra compartments for storing all the kiddie gear. There’s a big pouch for diapers and a change of clothes and a smaller pouch that you can use to hold the dirty stuff. The quick-access front pockets are where you store things you need ASAP like a pacifier, small toys, hand sanitizer, and a snack.
Sometimes at amusement parks, it’s not easy to get to a bathroom to wash hands. That’s why keeping a hand sanitizer in your backpack or diaper bag is a must. Wet-Nap Anti-Bacterial Wipes disinfect your child’s hands by killing nearly 100% of germs and come in individually wrapped packets. They’re also great for wiping down grimy tables and seats.
Avoid sky-high snack prices at the park and pack your own natural treats like Justin’s Candy Bars. With chocolate, caramel, and peanuts, they taste just as good as a Snickers without hydrogenated oils and chemically ingredients. Try the peanut butter cups – they’re the best! Or, pack trail mix, frozen grapes, granola bars, carrot sticks, apples and bananas for healthy options.
With these supplies, you’re ready for a fantastic first adventure with your little one. Have fun!
