I can still remember my mom reminding my sister and me that our hair truly was our “crowning glory.”
Fortunately, all three of us girls were blessed with healthy beautiful hair, but one way we preserved the health and lustre of our hair was regular trips to the salon.
Now that my haircare is on my own dime, I still like to do all that I can to maintain the appearance of my hair, but I’m a little more aware of how much hair care costs.
With that in mind, I’ve come up with a variety of ways for how to save money at the salon. Remember, I told you that you could look and feel your best even on a budget?
Here are just a few more tips to help you do that!
Easy Tips to Save Money at the Salon
Depending on your hairstyle, colour, and yes, your location, you could be paying upwards of $50 to $100 or more every time you head to the hair salon.
While I’ll agree with you that a good cut is well worth the investment, I certainly don’t have that kind of money in my budget to be shelling out for my hair.
With these tips, you can still get a great hairstyle, but you won’t have to spend all that money. It’s the best of both worlds!
1. Get a Solid Hairstyle
I’m as attracted to the fancy cuts in the magazines as much as the next person, but something always brings me back to reality before I make the big decision.
Most of the women you see in magazines have a stylist 24-7 whose sole responsibility is to make sure their hair looks perfect.
Not so much.
So, what I do instead is get a solid hairstyle that anyone can cut and style. Remember, I’m the one who has to maintain it every day.
My go-to look is long and slightly layered. When you choose a style, be sure to select something with straightforward angles that will work well with your hair type and desired length.
2. Pick and Choose Your Services
One way you can save bookoo bucks at the salon is by picking and choosing your services. When it comes down to it, you can get away with a little less lavish of a hairstyle or cut. But, you can’t as easily recover from a bad colour job. If you want to save a little money, opt for a less expensive cut at a lower end salon and save your money for a good colour with your favourite stylist.
3. Visit a Discount Salon Every Other Haircut
Another way you can save is by opting for a maintenance cut from a discount salon.
Instead of going to your main stylist every six weeks, visit a less pricey shop every other cut to get a trim or touchup.
You’ll likely pay half as much as you would at your normal salon, and your “discount stylist” can simply follow the map created by your typical stylist.
4. Schedule an Appointment at the Local Beauty School
If you have a beauty school nearby, see what the policy on discount services is.
Most schools offer all of the regular services available at a salon for a fraction of the cost. You’ll be able to get a great cut or style and feel good knowing that you offered another authentic learning opportunity for an up and coming stylist.
Most schools even offer manicures, pedicures, and other services.
5. Stop in for a Quick Trim
On your bangs that is. When I had bangs, I don’t know how many times I headed to the salon to get a full haircut just because my bangs needed trimmed.
Take a lesson from me, you don’t have to pay for that! The most stylist will do a quick trim on your bangs whenever they need it.
Stop by your stylist, and she or he should be able to fit you in for no cost.
Don’t be disillusioned.
You can look and feel great without spending a fortune, even when it comes to salon services.
