Pregnancy got you too hot and bothered? Skip straight to the tips.

It seems like it’s taken me months to actually feel pregnant. Sure, I had nausea during the first trimester but once that passed, I didn’t have any major pregnancy symptoms.

Add to the fact that pretty much anyone I’d see would tell me how “NOT pregnant” I looked. I know it was meant as a compliment, but I wanted to be one of those “cute” pregnant ladies with a noticeable bump.

Now that I’m 6+ months pregnant in the Summer, I’m finally feeling it … the heaviness of Baby Girl in my belly, swelling in my fingers and toes, not to mention the miserable heat.

But I’ll be the first to admit that I am still handling the pregnancy pretty well — I have these tips and tricks for surviving Summer to thank for it.

If you or someone you know is pregnant during Summer, these pregnancy hacks will help you enjoy (well at least SURVIVE it).

5 Tips for Surviving a Summer Pregnancy

1. Drink lots of water

If you’ve ever been pregnant, you know the struggle is real. You drink one small glass of water and then you’re running to the bathroom for the next hour and a half.

But staying hydrated is the only way you’re going to be comfortable. So, drink water and LOTS of it.

I keep my BellyBottle pregnancy water bottle handy at all times.

It has hourly drinking lines printed right on it to help you stay on track throughout the day.

2. Eat small, frequent meals

When it’s hot out, I tend to not want to eat much. But add a baby in my belly and feeling like a puffer fish becomes a real thing.

To help me avoid the bloat, stay energized, and feed my growing baby well, I’ve started to eating more frequent, smaller meals.

Because I’m not eating huge meals that really fill me up, I feel better and still stay satisfied.

3. Elevate your feet

Every time my doctor asked, “Are you experiencing any swelling in your hands, legs, feet, face, or neck?” I’ve been able to say, “No.”

I think it’s a combination of two things. The first is drinking water (see #1), but the second thing is elevating my feet.

At the first sign of feeling a little more “swollen” than usual, I hike up my feet and take a little break.

Allow yourself that break too, and elevate your feet when you sense some swelling. You may enjoy this fun pregnancy activity book while you’re resting. It’s hilarious!

4. Wear loose layers

Ladies, I know that remaining comfortable in maternity clothes (or ANY clothes for that matter) is tough during pregnancy. But it only compounds itself in the Summer months.

I mean, who really wants to be lugging around an extra 20+ pounds when it’s 90 degrees outside?

My solution to this has been to find loose, comfortable layers to wea – especially when I have to be outside for very long.

Layers allow you the ease of shedding one or two items if you get overheated, and the looseness makes it easy to stay cool and comfortable.

I LIVED IN these maternity shorts! They’re light-weight and super stretchy.

These comfy shorts are perfect for just lounging around the house or even exercising. Exercise? Um, who am I kidding?

I loved wearing them while SLEEPING, especially on sticky Summer nights.

5. Try peppermint essential oil

Peppermint oil is considered a “hot” oil but it actually has an intense cooling effect.

I love using it during the Summer months. I just apply a drop to the back of my neck when feeling especially hot or worn down. The cooling sensation is so refreshing after a long day!

Disclaimer: There are mixed opinions about using essential oils during pregnancy. Please do your own research and consult your medical care professional for any questions or concerns.

Everyone’s body reacts differently to pregnancy, but I’m thankful to say that I’ve had a relatively easy pregnancy right on through Summer.

These tips definitely got me throught it, and I hope they’ll help you enjoy your Summer pregnancy too!
